Strata survives Silly Season

At this time of the year, our local grocery stores are stocked and decorated for the festive season, indicating that December is nearly upon us. When we become aware that year-end is looming ahead, our minds begin to get into the holiday spirit and our work pace tends to slow down.

Before we get ahead of ourselves, it’s important to take stock of the rest of the year. We haven’t reached the finish line for 2021 so we can’t afford for our work ethic and motivation to clock out just yet. As with any marathon, we can’t cut corners – we endeavour to remain steady in our efforts and finish strong.

In order to close the year on top form, we encourage our staff members to realign themselves with the company’s vision and make provision to reach their targets. Along the way, some of us might have lost steam but if we support each other as a team, we’ll have that extra spark needed to exceed expectations and provide quality customer service.

The last few months of a year are crucial to meet deadlines and close off projects, but they can be a stressful time if we don’t look after our wellbeing. When left unaddressed, burn-out can be harmful for our bodies and our careers in the long run. At Strata, we encourage our people to take care of their mental health and deal with stress in a healthy manner, maintaining open communication with the team.

“Silly Season” is the term commonly appropriated for the period before the holidays as some try to make light of work pressures by playing practical jokes or engaging in horseplay. In some instances, attention to detail can be overlooked, and mistakes can be made on simple tasks. As much as this is a joyous time for many, we would like to remind our staff that relaxed safety measures and waning vigilance can cost lives.

Regardless of the time of year, safety remains one of our top priorities so we cannot afford to grow complacent or engage in reckless conduct. We have a shared agenda to make it to the end of the year injury-free and with sound minds. Many of us look forward to celebrating the festive season with friends and families, and our mission is to see each person get home safely.

“We’ve had a good year at Strata, and I’m proud of the combined effort that our teams have put in,” said Chrisna Basson, Managing Director. “Our people know when it’s appropriate to work hard and when to play hard, so I have no doubts that we’ll finish operations on a positive note. Until then, let’s kick into that extra gear and take motivation from the promise of a well-earned rest.”
